GrowPura is working with quality colleges and higher education establishments to provide practical experience and training in the relevant skills required by vertical and urban farming. Designed to complement both training and product development capabilities for companies in the UK and around the world, our ultimate goal is to increase the skill base for vertical farming and hydroponic operations.
The National Hydroponics Demonstrator and Skill Centre set for completion in Quarter 3 2021 was awarded a grant of £4.5m by the SEMLEP board to go towards the total cost of £22.5million. The 8,000 square metre facility is to be built on the Colworth Park Science park where there are a range of food and drink companies pursuing research and innovation. The site was originally owned by Unilever and Unilever have major research facilities on the site. The Skill Centre will provide a much needed practical training facility for businesses and individuals seeking development in vertical and urban farming.
On completion this will be the biggest facility of its kind in Europe.
